Fuji TV announced that Mitsuru Sangō's boys love manga "Mask Danshi: This Shouldn't Lead to Love" (Mask Danshi wa Koishitakunai no ni) will receive an anime adaptation, which is set to be released on October 20 alongside the special edition of the manga's fourth compiled volume as a Blu-ray Disc. The anime is being produced under Fuji TV's Blue Lynx label, which specializes in boys love anime.

The anime stars Takuya Eguchi as Tsuzuru Saikawa and Yūsuke Kobayashi as Keigo Sayama. Naoko Takeichi directs and writes the script for the anime at Studio Fusion, while Fumiyo Sakai handles the screenplay. Homura Kaneda designs the characters, and Sōnosuke Takao composes the music.
The story revolves around Sayama, a pessimistic boy who always wears a mask at school. Saikawa, the most popular boy in class, grows curious and tears off Sayama's mask, leading to an unusual relationship developing between the two.
Animate International publishes the manga in English. The series debuted in 2020 in Libre's b-Boy P! magazine, and the third volume was released in Japan in April 2020.
