The new season of the Monogatari series begins with Ononoki Yotsugi as the protagonist instead of the usual Koyomi. Yotsugi's disguise as Araragi Tsuhiki's stuffed animal is exposed when she is caught eating ice cream. To maintain her cover, she tells Tsukihi that she is an interdimensional magical girl using the plushie's body to fight an enemy.

Tsukihi, immediately eager to help, believes the story and prepares for battle. Yotsugi needs a credible enemy and asks the reclusive manga artist Sengoku Nadeko to draw a monster in the form of a snail. The confrontation takes place at the famous Namishiro Park.

During the staged battle, Yotsugi is overwhelmed by the snail monster. Tsukihi, unaware of her own immortality, sacrifices herself to protect Yotsugi, demonstrating her strong sense of justice. Yotsugi's mission was to guard Tsukihi, who serves as a vessel for the immortal phoenix Shide no Tori, a being that does not understand the concept of life and death.

The situation is resolved when the town goddess Hachikuji Mayoi intervenes, folding up the drawing of the snail monster and neutralizing the threat. Thanks to this unexpected assistance, Yotsugi's story indirectly becomes a success. Tsukihi's resurrection the next morning erases her memories of the events, allowing Yotsugi to maintain her plushie disguise.

Although the situation seems resolved, the cycle repeats when Tsukihi once again discovers Yotsugi moving and eating ice cream. The episode ends with Yotsugi preparing to convince Tsukihi yet again that she is an interdimensional magical girl.
