Extensive new information has been released for the original theatrical film "Paris ni Saku Etoile" (international English title: An Étoile Blooming in Paris) announced for March 2026. This includes the first full trailer, a new main poster, and the announcement of numerous additional voice actors.
The film, a collaboration between director Goro Taniguchi and character designer Katsuya Kondo, tells the story of two young women in early 20th century Paris. The plot follows Fujiko, who fights against societal expectations to become a painter, and Chizuru, a student of the martial art Naginata, who secretly harbors the dream of a ballet career. Their paths cross in the French capital, where they strive for recognition and the realization of their artistic goals.
The released main trailer begins with scenes from the childhood of the two protagonists, where their respective passions are awakened. It shows their chance reunion in Paris, their doubts and setbacks – including Chizuru's question of whether she, as an East Asian, can even become a ballerina, and Fujiko's tears in the face of the harsh reality of an artist's life. The trailer also offers a first auditory taste of the theme song "Kaze ni Noru" (approximately: Carried by the Wind), contributed by the band Ryokuoushoku Shakai.
In addition to the already known main voice actresses Ami Toma (Fujiko) and Rana Arashi (Chizuru), a large number of other roles have been cast. The newly announced voice actors and their characters include:
- Mugi Kadowaki as Olga, a strict ballet teacher for Chizuru.
- Matsuya Onoe as Tadashi Wakabayashi, Fujiko's uncle, who supports her departure for Paris.
- Akihiro Kakuta (from the comedian trio Tokyo 03) as Enzo, a cheerful Frenchman.
- Kenjiro Tsuda as Shoichi Yajima, a friend of Fujiko's brother.
Furthermore, a long list of renowned voice actors such as Yoshiko Sakakibara, Akio Otsuka, Yuko Kaida, and many more have been announced, although their specific roles have not yet been specified for the time being.
The production of the film is being handled by studio SUNRISE. Parallel to the theatrical release on March 13, 2026, the release of an official soundtrack has been announced for the same day. This will contain the film music by composer Takayuki Hattori on two CDs.
