In Episode 5 of "Mushoku Tensei," the story unfolds at Ranoa University of Magic, where Rudeus and his party member Elinalise Dragonroad arrive to meet Jenius, a teacher at the university. Rudeus expresses his desire to study, conduct research, and achieve various goals at the university.

Upon his arrival, Rudeus is asked to participate in a mock duel with Fitz, one of the university's most brilliant students, to demonstrate his ability to cast spells without incantations. Rudeus wins the duel with a spell called "Disrupt Magic," impresses everyone, and earns a place at the university.

Rudeus moves into the university dormitory and learns about the privileges and responsibilities of a special student. He is exempt from tuition fees and some classes but must attend lectures once a month and is responsible for his actions outside campus.

During the welcome ceremony, Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura, the second princess of Asura and chair of the university's student council, delivers a speech emphasizing the importance of order, rules, and respect for cultural differences.

Rudeus meets various people, including Zanoba, his former student; Linia Dedoldia, the daughter of a war chief; and Cliff Grimoire, a self-proclaimed magical genius. He also encounters Luke Notos Greyrat, his cousin and Princess Ariel's bodyguard.

Rudeus' main reason for attending the university is to research mass teleportation, which sent him to the Demon Continent—a journey from which he only returned after three years. He also seeks information about a missing friend. Fitz assists him by recommending a book on teleportation.

The episode ends with Rudeus expressing his deep respect for Fitz, now referring to him as "Mister Fitz," and showing gratitude for his help.
