Netflix announced today that the service has acquired the anime adaptation of Tsubasa Yamaguchi's award-winning manga, Blue Period, both within and outside Japan. A few days before the regular broadcast, Netflix Japan will offer a preview of the anime on September 25. The series is set to be available starting October 9.
The Japanese band Omoinotake provides the opening theme with their song "EVERBLUE," while Mol-74 contributes their song "Replica" for the ending.
Koji Masunari is the chief director, while Katsuya Asano directs the anime at Studio Seven Arcs. Reiko Yoshida writes and supervises the scripts, while Tomoyuki Shitaya is in charge of character design.
Kodansha Comics has licensed the manga, which describes the story as follows:
Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It's an effortless achievement, and ultimately... a boring one. But when he walks into the art room one day, a solitary painting catches his eye, awakening him to a beauty he's never known. Compelled, he dives headfirst into art—and will soon learn just how wild and unforgiving art can be!
