The upcoming anime »The World Is Dancing« has received a new main trailer as well as two additional voice actors. The production team announced this on June 5, 2026. The approximately one-minute clip titled »Utai« shows first glimpses of the plot and features a song sung by the voice actors from the series.
The trailer begins with a quiet Sarugaku performance and opens with the voice of the mysterious Inu-Oh: »I have heard the language of flowers.« As it progresses, vocal performances by the main character Oniyasha (Yumiri Hanamori) and the character Masujiro (Romi Park) can be heard, offering a taste of the series' musical accompaniment.
Yoji Matsuda as Inu-Oh and Miyuki Sawashiro as Shirabyoshi have been confirmed as new voice actors. Matsuda, known among other roles as the voice of Ashitaka in »Princess Mononoke«, takes on a continuous role in a television series for the first time. He commented: »The title ›The World Is Dancing‹ and the main character Zeami (Oniyasha) – that alone excited me. Being able to play the role of Inu-Oh (Doami) is a great honor. Inu-Oh is a mysterious man who repeatedly appears and disappears, influencing Oniyasha with his words. I am curious to see how their relationship is portrayed.«
Miyuki Sawashiro lends her voice to the female character Shirabyoshi, a sickly woman who lives in a dilapidated barn and supports herself through prostitution. Sawashiro expressed her thoughts on her role: »I wondered how close I could get to a character whose life is so different from mine. But her longing spirit captivated me. I am curious to see how her dance is realized in the video. The animators worked with full dedication.«
The expanded voice actor ensemble also includes Takahiro Sakurai as Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Nobuo Tobita as Nijo Yoshimoto, Mamiko Noto as Gyoko, Inori Minase as Chiharu, and Hazuki Seto as Satsuki. The anime is based on the manga of the same name by Kazuto Mihara, which was serialized in Morning magazine (Kodansha) from March 2021 to October 2022 and completed in six volumes. The story is set in 1374, during the period of the Northern and Southern Courts conflict, and tells the story of young Oniyasha – later the Noh founder Zeami – who is searching for a new form of dance.
Direction is by Toshimasa Kuroyanagi (»The Great Passage«, »Backflip!!«) at Studio CygamesPictures (»Uma Musume Cinderella Gray«, »The Summer Hikaru Died«). Series composition and screenplay are handled by Sawako Kawamitsu, character design by Keigo Sasaki. The music is composed by Daisuke Shinoda, and the opening theme »Shusho« is by the band Macaroni Enpitsu.
The first broadcast begins on July 2, 2026 at 10:00 PM on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting, and other channels. Already on June 21, 2026, an exclusive preview of the first two episodes will take place at Shinjuku Piccadilly cinema in Tokyo (participation only by prior lottery).
The manga is fully available digitally in English from Kodansha USA. For Southeast Asia, Muse Communication has acquired the license.
