Kazue Kato has been working on Blue Exorcist since 2009, when she began serializing the action shōnen manga with supernatural elements in Shueisha's Jump SQ magazine. Currently, there are 28 compiled manga volumes on the Japanese market, as well as a spin-off manga titled Salaryman Futsumashi - Okumura Yukio no Aishuu, which was published between 2013 and 2020 in Jump SQ.19 and the Jump SQ magazine. The manga has already been adapted into an anime series with two seasons and a film. The first season, which aired between April and October 2011, consists of 25 episodes and an OVA, while the second season, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, comprises 12 episodes and aired between January and March 2017 on Japanese television. The anime film was released in December 2012 under the title Ao no Exorcist Gekijouban (Blue Exorcist: The Movie). Both were produced by A-1 Pictures.
In the story, Rin Okumura has demonic blood, but when Satan himself appears to take him to the demon world, Rin refuses. His adoptive father, a respected exorcist, saves him but pays with his life. As a result, Rin decides to learn the craft of exorcism to fight against the evil fallen angel.
