The seventh saga of Hirohiko Araki’s cult series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Steel Ball Run (original title: Sutīru Bōru Ran) – is receiving an official anime adaptation. This was announced during an event at Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gymnasium, accompanied by first image motifs and a teaser trailer.
The story takes place in the late 19th century in the USA and follows former riding talent Johnny Joestar, who rediscovers his passion after being paralyzed. Together with the enigmatic outlaw Gyro Zeppeli, he participates in a transcontinental horse race that turns out to be the key to supernatural secrets. The released visuals show the protagonists in action-packed poses against vast desert landscapes.
Starting on April 13, the special exhibition JoJo Caravan will also launch at Shibuya SACS, offering insights into the creation of the series. On display will be color illustrations, reproductions of Araki’s original drawings, as well as interactive installations. Exclusive merchandise, including collector’s items featuring motifs from the new adaptation, will be available on-site. The exhibition is set to tour other Japanese cities afterward.
An exact broadcast date for the anime series has not yet been announced. However, fans can look forward to seeing how the studio and directing team will realize the complex balance of historical setting, over-the-top action, and Araki’s signature surreal design.
