New anime adaptation of Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta officially confirmed

The romantic comedy series Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta (engl. I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in Class) is getting a TV adaptation set to release in 2026. The production unveiled first visual previews along with a teaser trailer and announced the cast for the main characters.

The story follows the reserved student Maki Maehara, who develops an unexpected friendship with Umi Asanagi, the "second cutest" girl in class according to the class ranking. The dynamic between the two, who initially seem to have little in common, forms the heart of this humorous yet heartfelt narrative. The source material, an award-winning light novel (winner of the Next Light Novel Award 2023), already impressed with its blend of authentic dialogue and subtle character development.
