New anime adaptation of the Seishun Buta Yarou series: Santa Claus No Yume Wo Minai ("Aobuta: The Dreaming Santa") unveiled

The popular mystery novel series Seishun Buta Yarou is receiving another anime adaptation. Titled Seishun Buta Yarou wa Santa Claus no Yume wo Minai, the story will for the first time explore the college years of the protagonists, as confirmed by the release of the first promotional video. The broadcast is scheduled for July of this year.

The series, which deals with supernatural phenomena related to "Adolescence Syndrome," follows Sakuta and his surroundings in a new phase of life. The focus lies on mysterious events triggered by the emotional turmoil of the characters. The promo video offers glimpses of the atmospheric direction and also introduces the opening theme song Snowdrop by the band Conton Candy, which can already be heard in the trailer.

Two new characters join the ensemble: Himeji Sara, voiced by Konomi Kohara (A Silent Voice), is a talented student whom Sakuta meets through his part-time job as a tutor. Her curious nature leads her to develop a special interest in him. Mitou Miori, portrayed by Manaka Iwami (Fruits Basket), appears as an eccentric classmate of Sakuta’s who, much like him, consciously avoids modern technology and refers to herself as a "friendship candidate."

Alongside the voice actor announcements, official illustrations of other characters were released, including designs of returning figures like Shouko Makinohara. Accompanying the series, official social media accounts were also launched, including a TikTok channel for the franchise as well as YouTube and X profiles for the character Kirishima Touko. A music video for the song Social World rounds off the marketing campaign.

The adaptation continues the collaboration of the creative team responsible for the previous anime projects in the series. Fans can look forward to a faithful adaptation of the literary source material, blending humorous dialogue with melancholic undertones. Further updates, including details about the cast and episode length, are expected before the series premiere.
