The story centers around Sora Yamamoto, an employee of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and Kaasuke, a mythical creature known as a Kappa. The duo dreams of traveling to space, with Yamamoto particularly aiming to turn Kaasuke into an astronaut capable of terraforming Mars. The voice cast includes Yūsuke Numata as Sora Yamamoto, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Kaasuke, Yukiko Motoyoshi as Josephine, and Toshio Furukawa returning as the voice of Nezumi Otoko. Other familiar characters from the series will also make appearances.
The anime is directed by Setsuko Shibuichi, with the script written by Hiroshi Ohnogi. This new installment marks the sixth anime in the GeGeGe no Kitarō series to be screened in planetariums. It is one of several projects celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of the original series, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 93.
