New Anime series announced: Onmyo Kaiten: Re-Birth

The animation studio david production has officially presented its first independently developed anime project: The new series is titled Onmyo Kaiten: Re-Birth. Alongside the announcement, the team released initial information about the plot, a first teaser image, a preliminary video preview, and details about the cast and production team.

"Onmyo Kaiten: Re-Birth" is an action work that depicts a fantastical parallel world blending futuristic technology with the classical aesthetics of Japan's Heian period. The story centers around high school student Takeru Narihira, a hot-tempered youth who, after an accident, is transported to the cyber metropolis Denji Heian-kyo. There, he encounters Tsukimiya, a mysterious young woman who had previously appeared in his dreams. When both are fatally wounded during a sudden attack, Takeru unexpectedly experiences a leap back in time. From then on, he does everything he can to avert the tragic outcome of the events. Assisting him is Abe no Seimei, who teaches him to wield the mystical techniques of an Onmyoji. Since February, a companion manga version by author Koh Satsunofuji and illustrator Kyujyo Matsumoto has also been serialized.

The main voice cast includes Taihi Kimura (as protagonist Takeru), Maaya Uchida (as Tsukimiya), and Ryohei Kimura (as Abe no Seimei). The director is Hideya Takahashi, known for works such as "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind" and "Urusei Yatsura." The screenplay is handled by Hayashi Mori ("SAND LAND: THE SERIES," "Cells at Work! CODE BLACK"), while Kazuaki Morita ("Assassination Classroom," "Classroom of the Elite") is in charge of character design. The music is composed by Masahiro Tokuda, who previously scored the series "silent." Concept artwork is designed by Kitsuneiro, with novelist Akuto Sato and science fiction writer Katsuie Shibata responsible for ideas and narrative consistency.

A first teaser image depicts the pivotal moment where Takeru attempts to save the falling Tsukimiya above the rooftops of the cyber city. The first released video also showcases glimpses of the protagonist Takeru battling hostile creatures.
