New anime series Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara starts in July

The eccentric detective comedy Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara by Masakuni Igarashi will receive a TV adaptation starting July 2024. The production has now revealed details about the cast, production team, and a first look at the story via the main trailer and key visual.

The once-celebrated high school detective Keiichirō Nagumo (voice: Junichi Suwabe) now lives as a down-and-out private investigator. His monotonous daily life is turned upside down by the ambitious student Mashiro (voice: Kana Hanazawa), who idolizes him as a mentor and forms an unwilling duo with him. The series combines crime elements with absurd comedy scenes as the mismatched pair must solve bizarre cases.

- Nezu Tarō: A small-time Yakuza thug (voice: Kengo Kawanishi) who settles into Nagumo's office.

- Hoshino Azuha: A college student (voice: Fairouz Ai) who lives below Nagumo's office and gets dragged into conflicts.

- Kaze-chan: A mysterious girl (voice: Misaki Wata) who picks up Mashiro.

- Mimasaka Sōya: A former rival of Nagumo, now a police officer (voice: Yasuyuki Kase).

The animation is handled by LIDEN FILMS (Call of the Night, Tokyo Revengers), directed by Rion Kujō. The opening theme Suffer is by singer Taiiku Okazaki, whose energetic soundtrack is already heard in the trailer.

The key visual features Nagumo and Mashiro against an urban backdrop, surrounded by side characters like the mascot-like dog Kerberos and the tough Makichan (Hanako Kazamaki). The slogan "Detectives used to be glorious" underscores the series' ironic tone.
