A new film adaptation of the anime series Gintama introduces a previously unknown character to the story. The remake of the Yoshiwara in Flames story arc will open in Japanese theaters on February 13, 2026.

The film features a character named Enkaku, created specifically for this production. The voice of this character is provided by the experienced voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi. Enkaku is described as an admirer of the powerful antagonist Housen, who operates in the underworld of the Yoshiwara district.

In addition to the new character, several familiar characters from the original Yoshiwara in Flames story arc will also reappear. Their respective original voice actors are returning for the film. The production is directed by Naoya Ando, while Taku Kishimoto is responsible for the screenplay. The animation is handled by studio BN Pictures.

The film's plot newly adapts the story already told in episodes 139 to 146 of the anime series. It follows the main characters Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura as they enter the secluded entertainment district Yoshiwara. There, they become embroiled in a conflict with the corrupt rulers of the district, led by Housen. The film is being produced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the anime adaptation of the series. It is a complete re-animation of the material in the CinemaScope format.
