A new anime adaptation of the classic manga "Cyborg 009" by Shōtarō Ishinomori has been announced. The series, titled "Cyborg 009: Nemesis," is set to be streamed in the summer of 2026. As announced by the production company Ishimori Production, the renowned voice actor Yūichi Nakamura will take on the role of the new antagonist Graviton, the leader of the titular group Nemesis.

The plot of "Cyborg 009: Nemesis" is set in the present day. For over half a century, the nine cyborg warriors have protected humanity from a wide variety of threats. Yet the battle never seems to end. Now, a new group of nine cyborgs, Nemesis, appears, firmly believing that the original 009 team cannot bring peace. They are led by Nemesis 009 / Graviton.

Graviton, voiced by Yūichi Nakamura, is a former British special forces operative who was severely wounded in a mission. His goal is the "complete eradication of evil," and he possesses the ability to manipulate gravity.

A teaser visual was also revealed for the release, showing Graviton in a powerful, confident pose. The accompanying texts "I am 009" and "Changing of the Guard" hint at the conflict of the new series.

Nakamura commented on his role in a statement: "The opposing force wants to enforce the justice they believe in, in their own way. One might even think that 009 and his group aren't so different from Graviton and his people—they are like a mirror image. Although they are cyborgs, I find them very human and interesting." About Graviton himself, he said: "He is cold-blooded and has a very strong ideology. To achieve his goal, he stops at nothing. In terms of the constellation, he is the villain, but he doesn't do it out of a love for destruction."

The direction for "Cyborg 009: Nemesis" is handled by Hideki Ambo at the animation studio Arect. The screenplay is by Atsuhiro Tomioka and Charatex, with character design by sanorin. The opening song will be "Dare ga Tame ni" (For Whom) by singer Kyoko. The song was written by Ishinomori himself and was already the opening for the 1979 TV anime series.

The original "Cyborg 009" manga series began in 1964 and is considered one of Ishinomori's major works. It tells the story of nine humans who are turned into cyborg soldiers by the evil organization Black Ghost, but then turn against their creators.
