A new main theme and a detailed trailer for the upcoming original anime "Chō Kaguyahime!" (English: "Super Kaguyahime!") have been released.
The production is directed by Seigo Yamashita, who makes his feature film directorial debut here. Yamashita previously became known for designing opening sequences for series such as "Jujutsu Kaisen", "Chainsaw Man", and "Urusei Yatsura". The anime will be realized as a musical film that takes up the classic tale "Taketori Monogatari" and underscores it with specially composed pieces by various well-known Vocaloid producers.
The released trailer presents two new songs. The first title "Watashi wa, Watashi no Koto ga Suki." (approximately: "I like myself.") was composed by HoneyWorks and is sung by Yūko Natsuyoshi, the voice of the protagonist Kaguyahime. The second song is the main theme of the project titled "Ex-Otogibanashi", composed by ryo (supercell). This is performed by the character Yachiyo Tsukimi, voiced by Saori Hayami.
The main visual shows the two main characters Kaguyahime, holding a microphone, and Ayaha Sakaori with a keyboard instrument. In the background, the character Yachiyo on a roof as well as another, new character figure can be seen.
Further production details were announced. The character design for the real world is by Akihiro Nagae, while the design for the virtual space "Tsukuyomi" was developed by Hechima. The voice cast includes, besides the aforementioned Yūko Natsuyoshi as Kaguyahime and Saori Hayami as Yachiyo Tsukimi, also Anna Nagase in the role of Ayaha Sakaori. Newly added is the information that Rie Kugimiya will play the role of the fluffy sea slug FUSHI, which accompanies Yachiyo in the virtual space.
Accompanying the anime, two singles by ryo (supercell) will be released on January 23, 2026: "CPK! Remix" and "Ex-Otogibanashi". Additionally, a comic adaptation by Tarō Yoneda and a novel version by Narto Kiriyama are planned.
