The production of the anime adaptation of Reki Kawahara's light novel series 'Demons Crest' (Japanese: デモンズ・クレスト) is progressing well. As announced by the project team at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, the series will stream worldwide exclusively on Prime Video starting November 6, 2026. Alongside this, a new key visual, the first trailer, and fresh casting and music details have been released.

The story is set in a world where the boundaries between a fully immersive VRMMO-RPG called 'Actual Magic' and reality blur. What starts as a seemingly harmless test round evolves into a deadly fight for survival—a dark vision from the creator of 'Sword Art Online,' who explores the genre of mixed-reality horror for the first time with this work.

At the center are sixth-grader Yuma Ashihara (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) and his twin sister Sawa (Konomi Inagaki). Joining the already known main characters are two more classmates: Kenji Kondo, a lively and cheeky boy, is portrayed by Yuya Hirose; the role of Mizunagi Chano, a cute yet strong-willed classmate, is taken on by Satomi Amano. Both actors emphasized in their comments their joy at being part of the project.

The opening music is contributed by the celebrated singer Ado. Her new song 'Shinka' (Japanese for 'Evolution') was specially composed by Vocaloid producer YurryCanon. In a statement, Ado explained that the title deals with the fusion of game and reality as well as the search for authentic feelings in the face of illusion and doubt. A first excerpt of the track can be heard in the just-released trailer; additionally, a short '15-Second Challenge' video was shown, which already caused a stir at the convention.

The key visual contrasts the cheerful game world of 'Actual Magic' with a threatening real-life backdrop—a symbol of the series' dual narrative perspective. Separate character images in school uniforms were also presented. The visual design is in the hands of Yukiko Horiguchi, who already provided the original illustrations for the light novel.

Kenichiro Komaya is in charge of direction, while Shinji Ushiro holds the position of chief director. The series composition comes from Eiji Umehara, known for his work on 'Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song.' The renowned studio Production I.G is responsible for the animation production; the music is composed by Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani.

The light novel 'Demons Crest' has been published since November 2022 by Dengeki Bunko (KADOKAWA) and currently comprises four volumes. An English translation is published by Yen Press. To kick off the marketing, the official X account of the anime is giving away hand-signed posters of the four main voice actors.
