One month before the planned series premiere, producer TOHO animation has revealed further details about the anime adaptation of the popular light novel series “Futsutsukana Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga ~Suuguu Chouso Torikae Den~” (Though I Am an Inept Villainess). The series will air every Sunday at 23:45 on the TV Tokyo network starting July 12, 2026. Originally scheduled for an April 2026 premiere, the production was postponed to summer for quality reasons.

In addition to the previously announced main cast – Manaka Iwami as Reirin Kou, Natsumi Kawaida as Keigetsu Shu, Makoto Furukawa as Gyomei Ei, Yuichiro Umehara as Shin’u, Hana Hishikawa as Lilie, and Nikray Farahnaz as Tosetsu Kou – five more voice actresses have been added: Rei Igarashi voices Kenshuu Kou, Ai Kayano takes on the role of Gabi Shu, Mai Nakahara lends her voice to Seika Kin, Inori Minase voices Houshun Ran, and Yui Ishikawa portrays Kasui Gen. The new cast members can also be heard and seen in the recently released second trailer.

The opening theme will be the song “Sunny” by singer milet, written specifically for the series. This marks the first time milet has contributed an opening theme for an anime television series. The track will be digitally released on July 12, 2026 at 0:00; a pre-add/pre-save campaign is already underway.

For further promotion, two former Takarazuka top stars, Madoka Hoshikaze and Jun Hana, have been recruited as special supporters. On June 21, 2026, a preview screening will be held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, featuring stage appearances by voice actresses Natsumi Kawaida, Hana Hishikawa, and Nikray Farahnaz, as well as the two supporters. Attendees will receive an exclusive digital novella by author Satsuki Nakamura as a gift. On June 28, a Hit-Prayer event will take place at a secret location in Tokyo, featuring appearances by Makoto Furukawa, Rei Igarashi, Ai Kayano, and Yui Ishikawa, among others. The event will be streamed live on YouTube.

The story is based on the light novel series of the same name by Satsuki Nakamura (illustrations: Kana Yuki), which has been published by Ichijinsha since December 2020 and has grown to twelve volumes as of March 2026. A manga adaptation by Ei Ohitsuji is being serialized concurrently in the magazine Monthly Comic Zero-Sum. The anime adaptation is being directed by Mitsue Yamazaki at Studio Doga Kobo; series composition is handled by Yoshiko Nakamura, and character design is by Ai Kikuchi.

Internationally, the series will be licensed through Disney+ and Hulu in the US and Europe, Netflix in Asia, and Crunchyroll in numerous countries. A special panel featuring voice actors Hana Hishikawa and Makoto Furukawa will be held at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 4, 2026.
