New film scenes for the anime "Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to -Dive in Wonderland-" released

On the "Alice Day" on July 4th – the date on which Lewis Carroll is said to have first told the story of Alice – seven new stills from the upcoming anime film were released. The production is loosely based on Carroll's classic "Alice in Wonderland" and relies on an independent, creative interpretation.

The stills show key moments: Alice shrinks after drinking a bottle labeled "WATASHIWO O NOMI" ("Drink me"), then sits shrunken on the protagonist Rise's shoulder and eats cake with her. Together, Rise and Alice hold hands to enter a surreal-fantastical world. Another image captures a dramatic encounter between Rise and the Queen of Hearts.

At the center of the story is Rise, a young woman who arrives in the parallel world "Wonderland." There, she meets Alice, and together they embark on an absurd and visually stunning journey that primarily focuses on Rise's personal growth. The reinterpretation deliberately remains flexible and does not strictly adhere to Carroll's original.

The film project is directed by Toshiya Shinohara (including "Nagi no Asukara"), with animation by the renowned studio P.A.WORKS. The main roles are voiced by Nonoka Hara as Rise and Myrica You as Alice. The cast also includes Mayu Matsuoka, Kōji Yamamoto, Satoshi Hino, Ryūichi Kosugi, Kappei Yamaguchi, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Takahiro Yamamoto, Shōtarō Mamiya, and Keiko Toda.

The release of the new stills on "Alice Day" is intended as a tribute to Carroll's literary legacy. Visually, the film stands out with contrasting colors and surreal, imaginative landscapes that reflect the typical style of P.A.WORKS. The theatrical release is set for 2025.
