During the Aniplex Online Fest 2022, the anime NieR:Automata Ver1.1a was given a release date. The anime adaptation of the video game developed by Platinum Games and published by Square Enix is being produced by A-1 Pictures and is set to be released in January 2023.

The director is Ryouji Masuyama, best known for directing Blend S and Hello WeGo! He will also be responsible for the screenplay, with guidance from the creator of the original video game, Yoko Taro. Along with the announcement, a short interview with the two was released, where they discuss the project.

NieR:Automata tells the story of the androids 2B, 9S, and A2 and their struggle to reclaim a dystopian world ruled by powerful machines. Humanity has been driven from Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final desperate attempt to retake the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to eliminate the invaders. Now, a war between the machines and androids rages on. A war that may soon uncover a long-forgotten truth about the world.
