New insights into Hikari Ga Shinda Natsu ("The summer in which the light died"): main trailer, cast and soundtrack unveiled

Key details have been revealed for the upcoming anime adaptation of Mokumoku Ren's manga Hikari ga Shinda Natsu. The newly released main trailer offers atmospheric glimpses into the dark storyline, which revolves around supernatural phenomena and existential dread. Additionally, three new voice actors were announced: Hanamori Yumiri (Made in Abyss) as Yamagishi Asako, a classmate of protagonist Yoshiki who hears inaudible voices; Kowaka Wakana as Kurebayashi Rie, a housewife with the ability to see invisible beings; and Kobayashi Chikahiro (Golden Kamuy) as Tanaka, a mysterious investigator.

The three voice actors surprised audiences at AnimeJapan 2025 with live commentary on the psychological depth of their roles. The series blends mysterious elements with a character study on isolation and the darker aspects of humanity.

The ending theme, Anata wa Kaibutsu ("You Are a Monster") by artist TOOBOE, was also revealed, with a preview featured in the trailer. The song reinforces the dark psychological atmosphere of the series, which is shaped by Takahashi Yūichi's distinctive designs, Hiraoka Masanobu's gloomy animations, and Umebayashi Tarō's orchestral compositions.

The plot follows Yoshiki, whose life is overshadowed by surreal events after the unexplained disappearance of his friend Hikari. The newly unveiled characters contribute to the intensifying mystical threat that unfolds between reality and delusion. Further updates, including a concrete release date, are expected soon.
