New visual and audiovisual materials have been released for the upcoming anime series Scenes from Awajima (Japanese original title: 淡島百景 / Awajima Hyakkei). The series is based on the manga by Takako Shimura and portrays the lives of young women at a prestigious opera school.
The plot follows the experiences of various students at the Awajima Opera School (also called Awashima Opera School), who dream of one day standing on stage. The story is described as a multi-layered portrait of youth, in which interpersonal relationships, ambitious dreams, but also competitive thinking and complex feelings like admiration and envy mix. The narrative not only illuminates the present struggles of the students, but also addresses how people deal with mistakes from their own past. The manga on which the anime is based was published in the form of a story collection, in which various characters and time episodes are the focus.
The anime adaptation is being produced by Studio Madhouse. The direction is by Morio Asaka, while Yasuhiro Nakanishi is responsible for the scripts. The characteristic character designs are by Kunihiko Hamada. The planned premiere of the television series is scheduled for April 2026.
Among the most well-known characters of the series are the scholarship student Emi Okabe and Katsurako Ibuki, who comes from an influential family. Their voice actresses are Natsumi Fujiwara and Ayumi Tsunematsu. Other main roles are voiced by Niina Nakabayashi as Wakana Tabata and Yō Taichi as Kinue Takehara. Ai Kayano lends her voice to the character Ryōko Ueda, a former classmate of Kinue.
As a musical contribution for the opening sequence of the series, the artist Hana Hope performs the title "Blue Hour". A newly released key visual shows the opera school as the central setting.
