The production of the 33rd film in the popular "Crayon Shin-chan" series has been officially confirmed. The film, titled "Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake~shon" (roughly "Crayon Shin-chan: Strange and Mysterious! My Yōkai Vacation"), is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters during the summer holidays of 2026.
The plot takes the Nohara family to the hometown of father Hiroshi in Akita to see the famous Ōmagari fireworks. Simultaneously, however, chaos breaks out due to an incident as Yōkai (ghostly beings from Japanese folklore) escape from their world and wreak havoc in Akita, Kasukabe, and eventually all over Japan.
The Noharas themselves are drawn into the realm of the Yōkai, where they experience an unexpected and turbulent journey in a world that feels both familiar and wonderfully strange. The film's slogan is "A funny and wondrous encounter."
A "super teaser" key visual and a short teaser film were released for the announcement. The visual shows protagonist Shinnosuke gazing fascinated at fireworks, within whose colors and shapes the silhouettes of various Yōkai appear.
Masaki Watanabe has been hired to direct the new adventure. Watanabe has been the director of the TV anime series since 2022 and was also involved in the previous film from 2024. For him, this is his first solo directorial role for a "Crayon Shin-chan" film.
The screenplay is written by Yoshiko Nakamura, who is already responsible for episodes of the TV series and is thus also making her debut for the film series.
The established voice actors of the series, including Yumiko Kobayashi as Shinnosuke, will reprise their roles. The production is handled by Shin-Ei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions, and Futabasha.
