New Movie Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM Announced, Release January 2024

In the world of Gundam, a new story is taking shape. The official website for the "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed" film project recently went online, revealing details about the new production "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM."



The film is set to release in Japan on January 26, 2024. The story takes place in Cosmic Era (C.E.) 75, a futuristic timeline within the Gundam universe. The film's director, Mitsuo Fukuda, is well-known in the Gundam series, having previously directed "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed." Fukuda also contributed to the screenplay, co-writing it with his late wife Chiaki Morosawa and Liu Goto. The character designs are created by Hisashi Hirai.

The creative team for the film is bolstered by various contributors, including mechanical designers, animation directors, color artists, art directors, CG directors, editors, and sound directors, all bringing their unique skills and creativity to the project. The film's music is composed by Toshihiko Sahashi.

This film project is part of a broader initiative called "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Project ignited," launched in 2022 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original anime "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed." The initiative encompasses multiple aspects, including a new "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed" game and a manga featuring a side story titled "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Eclipse."

Mitsuo Fukuda confirmed that "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM" is a sequel to the second Gundam Seed TV anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny." The Gundam Seed series had a long runtime: the first anime aired from 2002 to 2003, followed by "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny" from 2004 to 2005.

Chiaki Morosawa, who played a pivotal role as the chief scriptwriter for the two Gundam Seed series, unfortunately passed away in 2016. Despite her illness since the end of "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny," Morosawa managed to complete the plot for the upcoming film project in close collaboration with her husband.
