New movie project for the "Gintama"-Yoshiwara arc confirmed

The anime series "Gintama" is receiving a cinematic reinterpretation of the story arc "Yoshiwara Flammeninferno." Titled "Shin Gekijōban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjō-" (English: "The New Theatrical Edition: Gintama - Great Yoshiwara Fire"), a completely newly animated version will be released in 2026. Original author Hideaki Sorachi contributed an exclusive concept image for this.

The story follows protagonist Gintoki Sakata, who meets the young pickpocket Seita in the underground pleasure district Yoshiwara. He is desperately searching for his mother, the courtesan Hinowa. Together with his companions, Gintoki confronts the tyrannical ruler Hōsen, who controls the district. The source material covers volumes 25-26 of the manga and was adapted as an eight-part arc in the TV series.
