The studio P.A.WORKS has revealed first glimpses of its new animation production „Towa no Yūgure“ (German title: Eternal Twilight). The story is set in a technologically advanced future and centers on the protagonist Akira Himemiya, voiced by Shūichirō Umeda. After a long cryosleep, Akira finds himself in a completely changed world where societal structures are controlled by the organization OWEL and traditional relationship concepts have been replaced by the so-called „Elsie“ system.
A central role is played by the android Yūgure, whose appearance strikingly resembles Akira’s disappeared partner and who is voiced by Yui Ishikawa. Additionally, Akira encounters his former childhood friend Tawasa Ōmaki, a scientist voiced by Ai Kayano.
Visually, the released teaser image provides a first impression: It shows Yūgure in a post-conflict urban landscape bathed in the warm light of twilight. A first clip also offers acoustic impressions of the main characters and underscores the unique atmosphere of the work.
Thematically, „Towa no Yūgure“ explores the challenges of human relationships in times of radical technological change. The narrative highlights the tension between personal memories and new realities and follows the characters on their shared journey through a changing world.
Direction and series concept are handled by Tsuda Naokatsu, while Saitō Yoshiko is responsible for character design. The original characters are created by Tayama Midori, with music composed by Tokuda Masahiro.
The series promises a successful blend of futuristic settings and emotional character studies and is set to premiere in October 2025.
