New Original Animation: Ten Years of "Mob Psycho 100" – Reigen Gets into Trouble

The anime adaptation of "Mob Psycho 100" celebrates its tenth anniversary – right on time for the anniversary of its first broadcast on July 12, 2016, the creators released a brand-new, fully produced animation sequence. The roughly two-minute short story was first shown at the official commemorative event "Anime 10th Anniversary Event: Reunion" at the Fukagawa Mirai Hall in Kawaguchi, Saitama, and subsequently made available to the public on YouTube and other platforms.

The story takes place in the familiar "Spirits and Such Consultation Office" and brings together the well-known characters: the self-proclaimed psychic medium Arataka Reigen, the highly gifted esper Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama, the spirit Ekubo, and Tome Kurata, the former president of the Telepathy Club, who appears this time in a blazer uniform. What begins as an ordinary workday takes an unexpected turn when Reigen gets into serious trouble – and of course, Mob's supernatural powers come into play.

The production of the anniversary film was handled by the original team: Yuzuru Tachikawa, who directed the first two seasons and served as chief director for the third season, took charge of direction, script, storyboard, and execution. Character designer Yoshimichi Kameda was responsible for animation direction and also contributed a specially made congratulatory illustration. In a statement, Kameda expressed delight that "almost all members of the original team were able to come together again" and that the short film "begins so naturally, as if the broadcast had only ended last week." He noted that rewatching the first episode of the first season made him realize once again how distinctive the visual language of "Mob Psycho 100" is.

The anniversary activities had already begun on May 12, Mob's birthday, with the release of a key visual and congratulations from creator ONE and other participants. The highlight was the live event on July 12, featuring the main voice actors and the band MOB CHOIR. The anime series itself comprises three seasons, produced by Studio Bones between 2016 and 2022, and is based on the manga of the same name by ONE, which was serialized in Shogakukan's magazines Ura Sunday and Manga One from 2012 to 2017. The ten-minute short film can be viewed on the official YouTube channel of Warner Bros. Japan.
