For the upcoming anime film "Chō Kaguya-hime!" – internationally known as Cosmic Princess Kaguya! – a new promotional image and a final trailer have been released. Additionally, the voice cast has been expanded with seven more names.

The work is the feature film directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita, who is best known for designing opening sequences for anime series such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. It is a reinterpretation of the classic Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (also known as The Tale of Princess Kaguya).

The plot follows 17-year-old Iroha, who juggles school and a part-time job, until her life is thrown off course when Kaguya, a mysterious, carefree young woman from the moon, suddenly enters her life. Together, they begin performing live in the virtual dream world "Tsukuyomi".

The film will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix and will be available on the platform from January 22, 2026.

New Promotional Material and Music

In addition to a new key visual showing the main characters Kaguya and Ayaha, a final trailer has been released. This presents the main theme song "Ex-Otogibanashi", contributed by ryo (supercell). Another song featured in the trailer is "Shunkan, Symphony." by the well-known music producer 40mP.

The film's music is also composed by Conisch, and several renowned Vocaloid producers are involved in the creation of the songs.

Joining the already announced main voices of Yūko Natsuyoshi (Kaguya), Anna Nagase (Iroha Sakayori), and Saori Hayami (Yachiyo Runami) are seven additional voice actors:

- Miyu Irino as Tei Akira

- Yuma Uchida as Komazawa Rai

- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Komazawa Noi

- Yoshino Aoyama as Ayatsumugi Roka

- Konomi Kohara as Isayama Mami

- Fairouz Ai as Chūken Otakō

- Natsuki Hanae as Otokoto Shokon

Some of the voice actors commented on their involvement. Miyu Irino described his character as "full of charisma", while Yuma Uchida emphasized that during recording he "felt the weight of every single word".

Production Background

The film is a co-production between Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, with the latter being co-founded by director Yamashita and this being its first production. The character designs for the real world and the virtual world Tsukuyomi are handled by different artists.

In addition to the film, adaptations in other media are also planned. A manga adaptation by Tarō Yoneda will begin on January 9, 2026, in the magazine Comptiq. Furthermore, a novel version with additional scenes will be released on January 30, 2026.
