The German publisher Butter & Cream will release a new manga series titled Butter & Cream Presents starting September 2008.
Each volume of the new series will feature two works by different German artists.
Memento Mori - Remember Death!
The first volume will include the manga Memento Mori by German artist Julia Schlax. Julia previously published her story Todkäppchen in the anthology Paper Theatre by Schwarzer Turm.
For Memento Mori, she delivers melancholic, romantic illustrations.
The story revolves around circus performer Auris, who struggles with a harsh fate—he is cursed to atone for a terrible crime for all eternity. As an attraction in the circus, he throws himself to his death every night, yet without hope of redemption.
The schoolgirl Romi also battles her own destiny. When she meets Auris by chance during a circus performance, she seems fascinated by him, and he regains his will to live. But his new friend is in grave danger, and Romi herself has no idea what kind of dangerous game she has gotten herself into, for Auris harbors an even darker secret...
Cave Canem - Beware of the Dog!
The second story comes from the pen of Fahr Sindram, who is already well-known for her manga Losing Neverland.
Cave Canem is set in a fictional Russia, where the orphan boy Jiri flees from men who want to exhibit him as a sensation—half-human, half-wolf. When he unexpectedly encounters Toriana, the daughter of the tsar, in the depths of the Siberian forest, fate takes its course. Reluctantly, Jiri decides to help her hide from the assassins targeting her family, for Toriana, like the wolf boy, is running for her life.
Both Memento Mori and Cave Canem will consist of four chapters each, spread across two volumes.
