The original TV anime "Sayonara Lara" (Japanese: "さよならララ"), produced to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Studio Kinema Citrus, has released a third main trailer and a third key visual. At the same time, two additional voice actors have been announced: Minami Tsuda voices the mermaid Lisa, and Kazuomi Yamamoto plays the role of Kota. The ending theme is provided by Hana Hope with the title "Hearts Glow."
The new video begins with the words of the protagonist Lara (voiced by Hana Hishikawa): "I would like to see it once" – a phrase that shows her curiosity about the human world. Lara, who has taken on a human form through a forbidden potion from the witch Grace, awakens to new life at Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Together with high school student Mari Otsu (Nana Kawaishi) and her family, she searches for true love. However, the trailer also reveals inner conflicts: her sister Lisa questions the possibility of love between a human and a mermaid. The images also show nighttime scenes with Mari and the boy Luca (Ayumu Murase), who resembles the prince from Lara's past, as well as memories of a happy childhood.
The third key visual depicts Lara surrounded by Mari, her sisters, the Sea King Rowan (Masaki Terasoma), the witch Grace (Rika Fukami), and other characters – an ensemble that hints at the turbulent yet heartwarming days awaiting Lara.
Additionally, a collaboration with the popular VTubers "Pokopea" – Ponpoko and Peanuts-kun – has been announced. A special collaboration visual shows the characters wearing swapped accessories. During the broadcast, viewers can search for hidden VTubers in the anime and participate in a giveaway via X posts. The prize includes postcards featuring the collaboration motif.
Since the story is set in Shiga Prefecture, numerous real locations appear in the anime, including the supermarket Heiwado. A limited collaboration product – a peach cream pastry – will be offered at its branches. Other cooperation partners include the Biwa Cultural Park Blue Met, Lake Biwa Ski Park, and the Lake Biwa Museum.
The series premieres on July 5, 2026, on TOKYO MX, BS Asahi, Yomiuri TV, and AT-X. Simultaneously, it will be released on numerous streaming platforms such as d Anime Store, ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Prime Video.
Directed by Takushi Koide, who hails from Shiga and makes his directorial debut with this work, the series composition is handled by Anna Kawahara, character design by Shiori Tani, and music composed by yuma yamaguchi.
