Thors is a seasoned warrior who, however, rebels against Viking laws and decides to escape the harsh life with his family. During his sea voyage, he is pursued by a mercenary named Askeladd and falls into an ambush, where he defeats his attackers but loses his life in the process. His son Thorfinn vows revenge and is captured by Askeladd, who forces him to join his ship. According to Viking code, however, Thorfinn has the right to challenge Askeladd if he overcomes certain trials, such as sabotaging or killing enemy generals, thereby becoming entangled in the war for the English throne.
