The new anime adaptation of the classic "Magic Knight Rayearth" by CLAMP has revealed further details. At Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles on July 4, not only a second key visual and a main trailer were released, but also three new voice actors were announced. Yuki Kaji voices the mage Clef, Emiri Katou the weaponsmith Presea, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka the swordsman Ferio. The series premieres on October 7, 2026, at 11:45 PM on Japanese TV channel TV Asahi in the "IMAnimation W" block.

The second key visual shows the three heroines Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuzaki, and Fuu Hououji defying fate together with their powerful rune gods – Rayearth, Celes, and Windam. The main trailer offers a first detailed look at the action-packed battles in the fantasy world of Cephiro as well as the magical abilities of the protagonists.

As early as March 2026, the main roles were cast: Ayane Sakura as Hikaru, Rumi Okubo as Umi, and Rie Takahashi as Fuu. Additionally, Saori Hayami as Princess Emeraude, Yuki Ono as Zagato, and Mika Kikuchi as Mokona. The musical score comes from renowned composer Yuki Kajiura, together with Takumi Ozawa and Shiho Terada. Direction is by Yui Miura, series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi, and character design by Satomi Watanabe. Animation production is handled by E&H Production in collaboration with TMS Entertainment.

The new voice actors expressed their excitement: Yuki Kaji recalled that the series was hugely popular among girls during his elementary school days – he himself didn't read it out of embarrassment back then, but is now deeply impressed by its timeless quality. Emiri Katou, who grew up as a fan of the series, is overwhelmed to now take on the role of Presea herself. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, known for numerous leading roles, is delighted to be part of the project and jokingly revealed that he personally is "Team Presea."

"Magic Knight Rayearth" is based on the manga of the same name by CLAMP, which was serialized from 1993 to 1995 in Nakayoshi magazine. The story follows three schoolgirls who are transported from Tokyo Tower to the magical world of Cephiro, where they must rescue the imprisoned Princess Emeraude as the legendary Magic Knights. The new adaptation marks the return of the beloved franchise after the original TV series from 1994 and the OVA from 1997.
