The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Konami's classic "Suikoden II," titled "Gensou Suikoden" (internationally "Suikoden: The Anime"), has released new details about its cast and music. Three additional voice actors have been announced: Jin Yamanoi voices Agares Blight, the peace-loving king of Highland who seeks peace with the city-state of Jowston after years of conflict and is the father of Luca and Jill. Miyuki Sawashiro lends her voice to Anabelle, the just and charismatic mayor of Muse and leader of the Jowston Alliance. She is an old friend of the warrior Viktor. Kouda Sakai takes on the role of Jess, the young and capable deputy mayor of Muse who admires his superior Anabelle but tends toward arrogance.

The opening title is named "Kanashimi sae Otonabite" ("Even Sadness Grows Up") and comes from the Japanese rock band amazarashi. Frontman Hiromu Akita commented: "As a big fan of the game, I was very happy to be able to contribute to the adaptation of a masterpiece that laid the foundation for JRPGs. Back then, I identified with the brave young fighters, but today I recognize the tragic dimension of a story where children are inevitably drawn into war. That's why I wrote 'Kanashimi sae Otonabite' as the theme song for these young heroes torn apart by fate. I sincerely hope that their hard struggle ends and that they can laugh in peace again one day."

The second promotional video, also released, offers a first preview of the opening and shows new scenes, including an impressive cavalry battle. The series starts in October 2026 on a total of 32 television stations across Japan, including TOKYO MX, Kansai TV, and BS Asahi. The first episode will be broadcast as a 60-minute special.

Before the series airs on TV, fans can watch the first three episodes starting August 21, 2026, in ten Japanese cinemas. On August 23, a special screening will take place at Shinjuku Piccadilly with the main voice actors Toshiki Kumagai (Riryu), Shinba Tsuchiya (Jowy), Ayumi Hinohara (Nanami), Katsuyuki Konishi (Viktor), and Yuichi Nakamura (Flik). Advance tickets for the 3800 yen seats are available via Lawson Ticket until July 31.

Complementing the anime, a manga adaptation titled "Gensou Suikoden: The Anime – Honmono no Eiyu" ("The True Hero") will be released in issue 155 of the manga magazine "Comic Dengeki Daioh" on July 27, 2026. It is drawn by Kuchiya, who previously handled the manga adaptation of "Seijo Victoria no Kosatsu." The magazine will feature the series as a cover and center-color feature. The series' staff includes director Yuzo Sato, series writer Michihiro Tsuchiya, character designer Ryo Yamauchi, and composer Koji Nakamura. Production is handled by KONAMI Animation.
