The Netflix anime film "THE RIBBON HERO," based on Osamu Tezuka's classic "Princess Knight" (Ribbon no Kishi), has unveiled a third trailer and additional voice cast members. Directed by Yuuki Igarashi in his feature-length debut, the film premieres worldwide on Netflix on August 8, 2026. It was already screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June.

The lead role of Princess Sapphire is voiced by Saaya (from the comedy group Lalande). Other previously announced voice actors include Seiran Kobayashi as Pine, Koki Uchiyama as Velvet, Mayumi Shintani as Zirco, and Haruhiko Jo as the Pope.

Now, five more cast members have been announced for Sapphire's comrades in the mine. The leader Rock is voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya, who describes his character as "a hero of the Showa and Heisei eras." The other team members are Hecate (Mito Tsukino), Chorogy (Yusuke Tezuka), and the twins Chick and Tack, portrayed by Nijisanji VTubers Lunlun and Debidebi Debiru. For Tsukino, Lunlun, and Debidebi Debiru, this marks their first role in a feature-length anime. In their comments, they emphasized the significance of the original work and their joy in participating.

The third trailer shows Sapphire, despite the devastation caused by the disaster "Nelgal," refusing to give up, donning her cape, and transforming into the Ribbon Hero. Her friends begin to believe in her. The mysterious Velvet also utters ominous words.

The film's music is composed by Satoru Kosaki and Ryuichi Takada (MONACA). The theme song "Reborn" is performed by the group Girls Archives. Character designs were created by Kei Mochizuki, assisted by Mai Yoneyama. The animation is produced by Outline, in collaboration with Twin Engine and Netflix.
