On the official Twitter account for the TV anime, it was announced tonight for the fifth anniversary that a NieR:Automata TV anime is in production, along with the release of a teaser trailer and visuals. While details about the adaptation are still unknown, we only know that Aniplex will produce the series.



NieR: Automata is an action role-playing game originally released in 2017 by PlatinumGames (developer) and Square Enix (publisher). In 2021, a remake version of the game titled Replicant ver.1.22474487139 was released. Jun Eishima wrote a three-volume light novel adaptation between August 2017 and July 2018 under the supervision of Taro Yoko, the game's director.

Square Enix describes the game's story as follows:

NieR:Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2 and their battle to reclaim a dystopia overrun by powerful machines. Humanity has been driven from Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final attempt to retake the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to eliminate the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on... A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth about the world.
