Kyoto Animation has released a promotional video for the television series "Nijisseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika" (internationally: "Sparks of Tomorrow"), marking the entry into the new story arc. As the production team announced on August 14, voice actor Yoshihisa Kawahara takes on the role of Stuart Smith, who becomes a key figure in the series starting with the seventh episode.

The series, based on the novel by Hiro Yuki and produced by Kyoto Animation, is set in an alternate world of the early 20th century, where only steam technology has prevailed and Kyoto is constantly shrouded in the smoke of machines. At the center are the boy Kihachi, who lost his brother and once dreamed with him of an "Age of Electricity," and the deeply religious Inako. Together, they try to unravel the secrets of the titular "Electricity Catalog of the 20th Century." The source material, published by KA Esuma Bunko, was honored with an honorable mention at the eighth Kyoto Animation Award ceremony.

With episode 7, titled "Runoji" – roughly "The Secret Escape" in German – airing on August 16, a new section of the story begins. On the day of the engagement ceremony between Inako and Yosuke, Kihachi learns from Kate that another part of the catalog is said to be in the Shiga region. Inako, who does not want to give up her dream, flees the engagement together with Kihachi and heads toward Shiga. Yosuke gives chase, and Kengo, who apparently carries his own worries, also stands in their way. A pursuit begins in which the protagonists' shared dreams are at stake.

In the previous episodes, the team had already set the stage for the new story arc: Kihachi managed to recover the first half of the lost catalog and realize some of the inventions he had once planned with his brother. Meanwhile, the mystery of the second, still missing half of the catalog, as well as the true intentions of Yosuke, the son of a steam conglomerate who shows an unusually strong obsession with the document, remain open.

The series is directed by Minoru Ota; the series composition is handled by Tatsuhiko Urahata, who also wrote the script for the seventh episode. The character design is by Kohei Okamura; for episode 7, Ryo Miyagi (storyboard and direction) as well as Nobuaki Maruki and Mariko Takahashi (animation direction) were responsible. The regular cast includes Yuuma Uchida as Kihachi, Sora Amamiya as Inako, Koki Uchiyama as Yosuke, Daisuke Ono, Shunsuke Takeuchi, Minako Kotobuki, You Taichi, and Natsumi Kawaida. Guest voice actors previously heard in the series include KENN, Sakiko Tamagawa, and Yu Miyazaki.

Regarding his new role, Kawahara said that the series captures the moment of epochal change – people's dreams and hopes for the future as well as their uncertainty about change. At the same time, it tells of love and friendship in many forms and is, for him, a wonderful, lasting work. He hopes that the audience can experience their "Eureka! Evrika!" together with the carefully crafted atmosphere of the era. The voice actor, known among other things from the series "NANA," thus joins the ensemble at a stage where the plot is clearly picking up speed.

"Nijisseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika" has been airing since July 5, 2026, on Sundays at 11:00 PM (JST) on Japanese television on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, TV Aichi, and BS11. Worldwide, the 13-episode series is streamed exclusively on Netflix in parallel with the Japanese broadcast. On the official website, along with the new video, character information for Stuart Smith as well as additional scene images and materials for the seventh episode have been added.
