It has been no secret for a long time that the anime series "ONE PIECE" will be aired in Germany. Now, the expected broadcast date has also been confirmed: March 2003.

Here is the official CTM report:

--------

ONE PIECE is the newest Japanese anime series, expected to launch on RTLII in March 2003 (see also E-NEWZ issue May/June 2002). The pirate series (90 episodes + 60 episodes in production) follows the adventurer Monkey D. Luffy, who dreams of becoming the Pirate King and finding the "One Piece," the greatest pirate treasure in the world. The series is popular among kids worldwide not only because of its quirky humor and eccentric characters. The Japanese toy company Bandai, which already holds the toy rights for ONE PIECE in various territories, has now also secured the rights for Germany. The plan is to launch the first products by March 2003, coinciding with the TV premiere, supported by a broad TV advertising campaign.

In addition to Bandai, other companies have already acquired licenses: Blues Filobranca, Düsseldorf, for a fashionable textile collection; BMG Ariola Media, Munich, for the official soundtrack; Universal Music, Berlin, for audio dramas on cassette and CD; the Spanish company Martomagic S.L. for stickers and sticker albums; the Belgian company S.A. Belltex for bedding; and many more. Carlsen Verlag, which publishes the successful Japanese comic books for ONE PIECE in Germany (already over 20 volumes released), will also expand its product line: In addition to the comic books, there will be posters, postcards, calendars, mouse pads, keychains, notebooks, and much more featuring ONE PIECE.
