In a flashback, Dr. Vegapunk reveals the painful truth to Bonney about her past. He gave her the powers of the Age-Age Fruit through an experiment, and his drug tests were responsible for the "Sapphire Scale" disease of her mother, from which Bonney also suffered. Kuma sacrificed himself in exchange for her treatment. Vegapunk explains to Bonney that her powers are weakening because she is beginning to doubt internally whether the legendary figure Nika, in whom her father believed, truly exists. Overwhelmed by this revelation and Vegapunk's cold-hearted attitude, Bonney falls into despair.

In the present on Egghead, Bonney is paralyzed and is being threatened by Saturn, who wants to have her executed. At the same time, Luffy is weakened and cannot move. The Straw Hat Crew pretends to hold Vegapunk hostage while the Marines surround the island.

Suddenly, an unexpected figure appears: Bartholomew Kuma, whom everyone thought was dead after activating his self-destruct switch. Severely damaged and driven only by instinct, he fights his way relentlessly through the Marine lines toward the center of the island. The episode ends with Kuma, despite his apparent death, heading directly toward his daughter Bonney.
