The TV anime "Ore to Yu-nii!" will premiere in Japan in January 2027. The announcement was made by the staff on August 21, 2026, along with the release of a teaser PV that captures the tender moments between the two main characters, Tsubaki and Yu. Additional members of the production team were also introduced with the announcement.

The series is based on the boys-love manga "Shota Oni" by Miyuki Nakayama, published under Square Enix's "Gangan BLiss" label. The story centers on fifth-grader Tsubaki Sawashiro, who deeply loves his older childhood friend Yu Shimizu. Ever since Tsubaki accidentally hurt Yu when they were young, he has felt responsible and has sworn to make Yu happy: "I'll take responsibility and make sure Yu-nii is happy." High school student Yu, on the other hand, finds the boy so endearing that he continues to treat him like a child – much to Tsubaki's dismay, who wants to appear as mature as possible in front of him. According to official information, the two are separated by six years and a 42-centimeter height difference; together they experience a daily life full of small misunderstandings and gentle gestures.

The teaser PV shows Tsubaki's sincere attempts to protect Yu, and Yu's calm, loving gaze at his little friend. In the lead roles, Shinnosuke Tokudome voices Tsubaki, and Shuichiro Umeda voices Yu.

Noriko Hashimoto is directing, known for her work on the "Given" films. The series composition is handled by Yuniko Ayana, while character design and overall animation direction are led by Yumi Kuroiwa, who previously worked on "Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!". The music is composed by Yukari Hashimoto and Ruka Kawada, with music production by Pony Canyon. Animation is handled by Studio Hibari, also known for the "Given" film series.

The manga source has been serialized since September 2021 and caused a stir on social media; in 2022, "Shota Oni" won the "Best Next Generation" category at the 13th BL Awards. The adaptation was first announced as an anime project in March 2025, followed by the series title "Ore to Yu-nii!" (English: "Yu-ni and I!") in December 2025, and the main cast along with the first key visual in March 2026; the official website also went live at the end of March. The new teaser PV is available via the project's official channels. With the start of 2027, the series will open the Japanese winter season.
