The original anime "Meiji Kenjutsu -1874-" will premiere on January 14. Yuichi Nakamura voices the protagonist, former Aizu Clan samurai Shizuma Orikasa, while Tetsu Mikami plays his rival, the seasoned swordsman Kyoshiro Shuragami.


The anime is set in 1874, during Japan's westernization period, and focuses on historical entertainment centered around Shizuma Orikasa, now a policeman, and Kyoshiro Shuragami, a feared swordsman and member of the Moriya yakuza group. The series features numerous historical figures, including Toshimichi Okubo, Tomomi Iwakura, Shimpachi Eto, Takayoshi Kido, Yoshinobu Tokugawa, and Takamori Saigo.


The cast also includes Tomoyo Kurosawa, Lynn, Kazuhiro Yamaji, Katsutoshi Houkai, Nobuteru Hiroyama, Yoji Ueda, Kazuyuki Okitsu, Miyuki Sato, Mie Sonozaki, Daisuke Kasuya, Ruriko Aoki, Takashi Matsuyama, Daiki Hasumi, Shunsuke Sakanoue, and others.


Director Hitoshi Tamamori commented: "This work embodies the essence of entertainment found in 'jidaigeki,' a representative culture of Japan, and we have carefully crafted it with this in mind." Naoki Totsuka, responsible for the original concept and series composition, invited viewers to enjoy the intense encounters of various characters with their own motives, including policemen, samurai, ninjas, yakuza, and geishas, set in Tokyo. Tsukasa Sakurai, the representative of Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab, which handled the animation production, expressed pride in the team's achievement: "It was a major challenge for our newly established company, but we succeeded. We hope everyone enjoys all 10 episodes!"
