Director Naganuma Norihiro ("The Apothecary Diaries", "The Ancient Magus' Bride"), known for his sensitive direction, has announced a new original anime project titled "Ryugesho no Shinobi". The first project PV and a concept visual were released alongside the announcement.

The story is set in Tokyo in the year 2029. After dinosaurs were supposedly wiped out by an asteroid impact, they secretly survived by crossbreeding with humans. Their DNA is hidden within human society, and they feed on humans while moving among them. A secret organization of ninjas stands against this threat – using a special pigment called "Ryugesho" (Dragon Make-up) that awakens the powers of ancient creatures within the fighters. Thus begins a stylish and action-packed battle for the survival of the species.

The team behind the project brings together notable creators. The original character designs come from Amano Yoichi, who previously gained experience with series like "AKABOSHI – Imin Suikoden" in Weekly Shonen Jump. Character design is handled by Nakatani Yukiko, who previously worked with Naganuma on "The Apothecary Diaries". Color design is by Aita Misato. The script is written by Inohara Kenta ("Saga of Tanya the Evil"), art direction is by Takeda Yusuke ("Chainsaw Man"), 3DCG direction is by Honda Makoto ("Gatchaman Crowds"). Sound is handled by Hata Shoji ("The Apothecary Diaries"), and music is composed by Mutsuki Shuhei ("Lycoris Recoil"). The anime is produced by Slowcurve and Avex Pictures, animated by Canon Code.

The project PV, personally directed by Naganuma, showcases impressive scenes: hordes of dinosaurs racing through the streets of Tokyo, ninjas unleashing their awakened powers, and an approaching asteroid. The concept visual captures the moment of a Tyrannosaurus Rex clashing with a ninja in modern Tokyo, while a dinosaur surrounded by a red aura emphasizes the threatening atmosphere. This is Naganuma's first foray into pure action genre, but the fluid camera work and raw energy of the PV promise a visual spectacle.

Alongside the anime, a manga adaptation will launch at Kodansha. The publisher and start date will be announced at a later time. The manga will tell the story parallel to the series.

Regarding the announcement, those involved commented: Director Naganuma describes the world as "a mix of memory, dinosaurs, ninjas, and make-up – dark but fascinating, full of secrets and intentions." Character designer Nakatani promises that viewers of all ages will find their favorite character. Amano Yoichi, who provided the original designs, simply commented: "Dinosaurs × Ninjas! A world full of dreams for boys! How could that not be great?!"

"Ryugesho no Shinobi" promises a fresh and original blend of nostalgia and modern action cinema. Further details on the broadcast date and cast are expected in the coming months.
