The manga series Overlord, created by Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Ōshio, recently published the final chapter of its first part in Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace magazine. The manga is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name by Kugane Maruyama.

Since its debut in 2014, Overlord has captivated manga fans with its gripping story and vivid illustrations. As of March 2021, Kadokawa has released 18 compiled volumes of the manga.

The original Overlord light novel series, penned by Kugane Maruyama, began in 2010 as an online sensation. The print edition, enhanced by illustrations from so-bin, has been in circulation under Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint since 2012.

The story of Overlord is set in the year 2138, a future where virtual reality games thrive. The plot intensifies with the shutdown of Yggdrasil, a popular online game. Despite this, the protagonist Momonga chooses to remain logged in, leading to an unexpected transformation into the form of a skeleton known as "the most powerful wizard." As the game world evolves, the non-player characters (NPCs) begin to develop emotions. Momonga, portrayed as an ordinary man with no family, friends, or social standing, sets out to conquer this newly transformed world.

The Overlord fandom extends beyond manga and novels, as the series has been adapted into an anime television series, with its fourth season premiering in July 2022. The franchise is also set to be adapted into an anime film project. This project will depict the "Sei Ōkoku-hen" (Holy Kingdom Arc) story from the novel series.
