This new adaptation is a collaborative project featuring a star-studded lineup. The direction is handled by Toshio Kawaguchi, while Naoki Urasawa, the original creator of Pluto, serves as creative supervisor. The visual design of the anime is overseen by Shigeru Fujita, the character designer and chief animation director, along with Kazunori Aoki and Itaru Saito as animation directors. Takahiro Miyata is responsible for CGI effects. The acoustic design of the series is handled by Masafumi Mima and composer Yūgo Kanno. The animation production is carried out by Studio M2, while the entire project is produced by GENCO.
The cast list for the Pluto anime, which features the voices of prominent Japanese actors, includes Shinshū Fuji as Gesicht and Yōko Hikasa as Atom.
Urasawa's Pluto manga is a reimagining of Osamu Tezuka's iconic "Astro Boy." The series ran from 2003 to 2009 and introduced readers to a distant future where humanoid robots seamlessly blend in with humans. The plot revolves around a series of targeted robot assassinations, with the main focus on the top detective Gesicht, who is also one of the targets.
Interestingly, the rights for a live-action/CG hybrid film adaptation of Pluto were acquired by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment from Tezuka Productions back in 2010.
