On August 2, 2026, at 7:00 PM, BS12 Twelli will broadcast the four-part anime special "Pocket Monsters: The Origin" as part of its "Sunday Anime Theater" series. Produced in 2013 to coincide with the release of Pokémon X and Y, this series is a direct adaptation of the Game Boy classics Pokémon Red and Green (1996) and fundamentally differs from the long-running TV series featuring Ash Ketchum.

At the center is the trainer Red, who receives his first partner, the Fire-type Pokémon Charmander, from Professor Oak and traverses the Kanto region to complete the Pokédex. The story closely follows the game's source material: Red faces off against his rival Green, challenges Gym Leader Brock, battles the criminal syndicate Team Rocket, and ultimately confronts its boss, Giovanni. The finale leads him to the Pokémon League and an encounter with the legendary Mewtwo.

Particularly noteworthy: In the final episode, Mega Charizard X appears for the first time—a development that had not yet been officially revealed at the time and surprised fans. The animation production is shared by OLM, Production I.G, and XEBEC; the directors are Itsuro Kawasaki, Yukio Kuroda, Hideya Takahashi, and Daiki Tomiyasu. Character design is by Hatsue Kato.

The voice cast includes Junko Takeuchi (Red), Takuya Eguchi (Green), Katsuji Mori (Professor Oak), Tomokazu Sugita (Brock), and Rikiya Koyama (Giovanni). Additional roles are voiced by Yui Ishikawa, Tokuyoshi Kawashima, and Minoru Inaba.

BS12 Twelli is a free satellite channel and can be received via BS+12 or Channel 222. The broadcast of the approximately 90-minute total runtime offers older fans, in particular, the opportunity to experience the series' beginnings once again in an independent, faithful animation.
