The first episode details have been released for the anime adaptation of "Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musou ~Nidome no Tensei, S-Rank Cheat Majutsushi Boukenroku~" (roughly "The Failed Sage Dominates the Academy – Second Reincarnation, S-Rank Cheat Mage Adventure Record"). The series is based on the web novel of the same name by Arata Shiraishi, which began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in 2018 and was later published as a light novel series under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko. With eight volumes and a total circulation of over 1.8 million copies, the story enjoys great popularity. A manga adaptation by Kentarō has been running since September 2019 in Square Enix's Manga UP! app and also comprises eight volumes.

The production of the anime television series is handled by studio EMT Squared under the direction of Hisashi Ishii. Series composition is by Deko Akao, character design by Hideki Furukawa, and music composed by Takaaki Nakahashi. The opening theme is performed by the band FLOW with the song "+Encount", while the ending theme is by TrySail with "Dōkei" ("Longing"). International distribution will be handled, among others, via Crunchyroll.

The plot of the first episode is titled "Thunder Emperor -PROLOGUE-" and introduces the protagonist Ephtal. He defeats the Demon King and receives the title "Thunder Emperor" – one of the four highest ranks of mages. However, in his old age, he learns that he possesses no magical talent whatsoever. Despairing over the insurmountable limit of his ability, he dies without reaching the pinnacle of magic. 400 years later, Ephtal awakens in a world where magical civilization has drastically declined. His once average abilities now seem like miracles. Armed with the knowledge and power of his past life, he vows to climb to the top of magic – and encounters his former student Merlin, who serves as the academy's principal.

The first broadcast in Japan will begin on July 1, 2026, at 24:00 (CEST) on Tokyo MX, followed by other channels such as ABC TV, BS Fuji, and WOWOW. Starting June 25, the episode will be pre-released at midnight on streaming services dAnime Store, ABEMA, and U-NEXT.
