Release date for “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” announced

The eagerly anticipated anime film "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" is set to hit theaters on December 27. Along with this announcement, the first trailer has also been released.

The film is the first full-length animated feature in "The Lord of the Rings" series and tells a previously untold story set 200 years before the events of the main trilogy. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on "Eden of the East" and "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex," the animated film is produced by the Japanese studio Sola Entertainment. Peter Jackson, the mastermind behind "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, serves as executive producer, alongside Philippa Boyens, who also wrote the screenplays for those films.

The story takes place in the kingdom of Rohan, where a young princess named Hera becomes embroiled in a battle to save her kingdom from destruction. Her greatest adversary is Wulf, a childhood friend turned enemy. This legendary conflict will decide the fate of Middle-earth. The trailer showcases several iconic elements familiar to fans of "The Lord of the Rings," such as the horn, the great eagles, the Oliphaunts (Mûmakil), the Orcs, and the fortress of Helm's Deep. A figure collecting a golden ring reminiscent of the One Ring also hints at how this battle could be connected to the larger "Lord of the Rings" narrative. Both the Japanese and international versions of the trailer have been released.
