After a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, Re:Zero returns with a 90-minute episode. Emilia and Subaru are invited to the city of Priestella by Anastasia Hoshin through her messenger Joshua, Julius's brother. The invitation promises a crystal that could help Emilia revive Puck. Meanwhile, Rem remains in a coma due to the actions of the Archbishop of Gluttony, and Subaru visits her before departing.

Upon their arrival in Priestella—a city reminiscent of Venice with its Japanese-style inns—they are greeted by Anastasia and Julius, as well as Beatrice, Otto, and Garfiel. Otto provides an update on the royal selection and notes that Anastasia is currently the frontrunner due to her family's immense wealth. The coveted crystal is in the possession of a local merchant known as the "Songstress Maniac."

While exploring the city with Beatrice, Subaru encounters the charismatic bard Liliana Masquerade. Impressed by her music, he unintentionally involves her in his search. As they approach the maniac, he becomes enraged upon seeing Subaru attempting to "tame" Liliana, jeopardizing the crystal trade. On their way back to the inn, they meet Crusch Karsten and Felt, accompanied by their attendants Felix and Reinhard. Anastasia reveals why she has gathered everyone: to discuss the threat posed by the Archbishop of Gluttony.

They spend some time at the inn, donning yukatas and enjoying the amenities. Subaru talks with Wilhelm about his strained relationship with his grandson Reinhard. The next day, while cooking okonomiyaki, tensions rise when Wilhelm's estranged son Heinkel shows up drunk. Shortly after, Priscilla arrives with her entourage, declaring that she will win the royal selection. Subaru reacts angrily, but Julius later thanks him for saying what he couldn't.

Later, Subaru, Emilia, and Beatrice see another side of Priscilla as she gracefully dances to Liliana's music. Priscilla tries to recruit Liliana, but the bard refuses, wanting to live freely like the wind that carries her songs.

While fetching snacks for Liliana, Subaru notices the townspeople captivated by Sirius, the self-proclaimed Archbishop of Wrath, who puts on an eccentric show atop a clock tower. Initially dismissed as a spectacle, the situation escalates when Sirius claims to have "united their hearts" and pushes a shackled boy to his death. As the boy hits the ground, everyone present suffers the same fatal injuries—including Subaru.

Subaru's ability "Return by Death" activates, and he finds himself back at the moment Liliana asks him to buy snacks. He recognizes the impending danger and realizes that Priestella's peace is at risk. With little time left, Subaru prepares to confront the threat posed by Sirius and protect the city from the looming crisis.
