In Episode 53, Subaru finds himself in a difficult situation as the Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult launch an attack on the city of Priestella. Regulus Corneas, the Sin Archbishop of Greed, appears and demands Emilia as his bride, throwing Subaru into a rage and confusion. Regulus criticizes Subaru for his lack of manners and insists on a formal introduction, emphasizing respect and common courtesy.



Meanwhile, Otto encounters Lye Batenkaitos, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, who attacks the city guards and threatens the safety of the citizens. Lye reveals his identity and prepares to spread chaos throughout the city.



Back at the plaza, Subaru and Beatrice attempt to rescue Emilia from Regulus and Sirius, the Sin Archbishop of Wrath. Sirius is fixated on Subaru, mistakenly believing him to be a Petelgeuse, and displays a twisted form of affection. A chaotic battle ensues, with Subaru and Beatrice struggling against the overwhelming power of the Sin Archbishops. Despite their efforts, Regulus manages to repel their attacks and abducts Emilia.



At the same time, Garfiel and Mimi visit a woman named Liara, who is later revealed to be Garfiel’s mother, suffering from memory loss. Garfiel wrestles with his emotions upon meeting her, torn between joy and sorrow. Mimi comforts him by encouraging him to express his feelings and confront his inner turmoil.



In another development, Capella Emerada Lugunica, the Sin Archbishop of Lust, takes control of the city’s broadcast system. She announces that Priestella now belongs to the Witch Cult, plunging the citizens into fear and panic. The cult has seized the city’s four control towers and threatens to flood Priestella by manipulating the water gates.



Subaru, severely injured during the confrontation, awakens in the care of Al and Felis. Beatrice is unconscious, her mana depleted after overexerting herself to heal others. Subaru learns from Crusch, Wilhelm, and Anastasia just how dire the situation is. They speculate that the Witch Cult may be searching for the remains of the Witch, rumored to be hidden in Priestella, which could explain their aggressive takeover.



Determined to rescue Emilia and defeat the Witch Cult, Subaru resolves to collaborate with his allies. The episode ends with Subaru joining forces with the others to confront the impending crisis and save Emilia from the clutches of the Sin Archbishops.
