Streaming service Crunchyroll has acquired the license for the anime adaptation of »Romelia War Chronicle« and will stream the series as a simulcast – simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast – in many regions worldwide starting in 2026. The announcement was made on July 27, 2026, shortly before the start of Otakon in Washington, D.C., where the series will have its world premiere.
The first episode of the fantasy series will be shown to an audience at Otakon on July 31, 2026, at 2:45 PM EDT. Afterwards, a panel will take place featuring voice actress Yuna Nemoto, light novel series author Ryo Ariyama, producer Yuki Watanabe, and editor Hiroyuki Hamada. The series will air on Japanese television over two consecutive cours (six months) and will be streamed by Crunchyroll in regions including North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the CIS.
Production is handled by Studio Atra. The series is directed by Hiroshi Shirai, assisted by assistant director Takahiro Hirata. Series composition is by Aya Satsuki, while Yoshiko Saito and Yuta Otaka are in charge of character design. Music is composed by KOHTA YAMAMOTO. The main roles are voiced by Yuna Nemoto as Romelia Von Graham, Jin Ogasawara as Al, Tomohiro Ono as Ray, Yuya Hirose as Henri Lleus Lionel, Sayaka Senbongi as Elizabeth, and Mariya Ise as Ekaterina.
The story follows the count's daughter Romelia, who accompanies her fiancé Prince Henri on a campaign against the Demon King Zelgis. After his victory, however, she is deemed useless and the engagement is unilaterally dissolved. Upon returning home, she finds that the remnants of the demon army continue to threaten the kingdom. Using the skills in trade, strategy, and negotiation she acquired during the campaign, she builds her own military force to protect the country.
The source material comes from the pen of Ryo Ariyama, who began publishing the story as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro in August 2019. Shogakukan released the light novel under the Gagaga Bunko label starting June 2020; the series concluded in November 2025 with six main volumes and one side story volume. A manga adaptation by Ryo Kamito has been running since April 2021 and comprises five collected volumes. The English manga is licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment. As of September 2024, the series had reached a total circulation of over 400,000 copies. The anime adaptation promises a blend of military strategy, political intrigue, and a strong female protagonist who asserts herself against societal rejection.
