"Rurouni Kenshin" Season 2 "Kyoto Inferno" announced for next year

The TV anime "Rurouni Kenshin -Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story-" has officially announced its second season titled "Kyoto Inferno." The season is scheduled to air in 2024 and will be featured in Fuji TV's "Noitamina" programming block. The announcement was made during "Jump Festa 2024," currently being held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

The second season shifts the setting from Tokyo to Kyoto and focuses on Kenshin Himura's confrontation with his antagonist Shishio Makoto, pulling him away from his peaceful days at the Kamiya Dojo. The production announcement was accompanied by a promotional video and images of the characters Shishio, voiced by Makoto Furukawa, and Seta Sojiro, who were introduced in the final episode of the first season.

"Rurouni Kenshin -Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story-" is a historical action-drama that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1994 to 1999. It was first adapted into a TV anime in 1996, followed by a theatrical anime in 1997 and three OVA releases starting in 1999. The series was also adapted into a live-action film series starring Takeru Satoh. Currently, the manga sequel "Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc" is being serialized in Jump Square (Shueisha).
